Qualifications

Education: Completion of secondary school is required.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of experience is required. If the candidate does not have at least 3 years of experience, then a post-secondary education certificate is required OR completion of a three-to four-year apprenticeship program will help to qualify.  

Work conditions and Physical capabilities: Bending, crouching, kneeling, Combination of sitting, standing, walking, Handling heavy loads, Large workload, Physically demanding, Tight deadlines, Work with minimal supervision, overtime required

Description/Duties

Business Information: We are a family owned and operated business, operating in the Sunshine Coast, Howe Sounds and Sea-to-Sky region for more than 40 years specializing in serving the unique challenges of island construction and marine logistics.

Work location: Various clients’ locations throughout the Mainland/Southwest Region.

Estimated Start Date: As soon as possible

Job Description:

  • Prepare estimates of labour and/or material costs
  • Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine work requirements
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Prepare tenders and quotations
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware
  • Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
  • Survey building locations and levels
  • Instruct apprentices
  • Supervise other workers
  • Estimate costs and materials
  • Operate CADD and other computer software systems
  • Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures in mills, mines, hospitals, industrial plants and other establishments

Salary: $30.00 hourly, 40 – 45 hours per week

Benefits: Mileage paid

Important Information: Flexibility on schedule is required. The employee will work from Monday to Friday from 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM. Overtime and weekend work may be required based on the clients’ needs.
