ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional District of Nanaimo is seeking a permanent full-time Electrician for our Southern Communities. The Electrician will be based out of the Greater Nanaimo Pollution Control Centre and also provides support to the Duke Point plant and southern pump stations.
The Electrician contributes to the effective operation of the Wastewater Services for the Regional District of Nanaimo through the continued safe operation, maintenance and repair of the instrumental equipment and electrical systems of the Wastewater Treatment plant processes and pump stations. This position supports the department by ensuring the facilities’ instrumentation and electrical equipment are in good repair and functioning as required to allow department team members to maintain service expectations, permits compliance and departmental goals and objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications for this position include completion of an interprovincial Electrician Trade Qualification issued by the Province of BC, plus Field Safety Representative Class B qualification, and six (6) months to one (1) year electrical/electronic, instrumentation and control experience, preferably in a municipal wastewater collection and/or wastewater facility. Possession of a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License is required.
POSITION DETAILS
This is a permanent full-time (40 hours per week) Union position. Shifts are Monday – Friday, straight days, and must be available to respond to afterhours emergencies. The (2024) rate of pay is $39.46 to $41.54. The position offers an attractive benefits package including participation in the Municipal Pension Plan as provided within the collective agreement between the Regional District of Nanaimo and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 401.
SKILLS / ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of the methods, principles, practices, tools, and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, repair and servicing of equipment.
- An ability to read, interpret, and work from drawings, diagrams, and technical/ specification manuals.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills and a willingness to work effectively within the team.
