JOB DESCRIPTION ELECTRICIAN
The Electrician is responsible for day-to-day electrical maintenance across the School’s campus, as well as acting as lead for electrical projects, as needed. The Electrician is a member of the maintenance team and will ensure  the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of all electrical facilities and systems.

This is a full-time opportunity, including a salary in the range of $80,000 to $85,000 per year, a comprehensive benefits package, and a nurturing, family-friendly workplace.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the responsibilities of an Electrician include:
 
Maintenance

  • Ensure the School’s electrical systems are compliant with all regulations
  • Report any and all abnormal (or potentially abnormal) electrical conditions
  • Take direction, receive and complete work orders though campus CMMS
  • Upgrade and modify existing electrical distribution systems and install new systems as required
  • Repair and replace motor contactors, switches and related equipment
  • Conduct periodic testing and reporting of electrical systems as required
  • Troubleshoot and solve simple to complex problems on campus
  • Complete rough and finish wiring
  • Keep detailed and accurate maintenance reports and documentation
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance and repair techniques
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

 
Projects

  • Act as electrical lead for projects as required
  • Read and interpret drawings and specifications according to Canadian Electrical Code and project specifications, and prepare quotes on electrical related equipment
  • Review blueprints and specifications, ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use
  • Propose changes or modifications to plan to enhance operation and efficiency of systems plans and specifications for campus facilities
  • Assist with direction and liaise with colleagues, contractors, regulatory agencies (occasionally) and other trades, as required
  • Enforce WCB and Shawnigan-mandated Health and Safety Standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


REQUIREMENTS

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada, or if not, receive all appropriate visa and permissions to legally work in Canada
  • B.C. Drivers Licence (or equivalent) (Required)
  • Canadian Electrical Red Seal (preferred)
  • B.C. FSR "A" or "B" (or equivalent)
  • 3 – 5 years working experience as a qualified Electrician
  • Good knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code
  • Experience working with rigid galvanized conduit, tech cable, cable tray, high voltage systems, EMT conduit and motor controls
  • Experience with MCC and PLC wiring
  • Able to plan and execute electrical installations
  • Able to mentor junior maintenance team members, including electrical apprentice
  • Ability to work well with clients and provide exceptional customer service
  • Experience working in a High School environment advantageous
