Qualifications
What you bring:
- You will be certified in B.C. as a 3rd Class Power Engineer and relevant safety, security, technical and operational skills training.
- You will have 5 years of building operation experience as a 3rd Class Power Engineer including a minimum of 3 years of supervision experience in a similar work environment.
- You will have experience overseeing the work of staff or consultants, leading projects, and making recommendations to senior management.
- You will have excellent computer skills including MS Office Suite and database software, and the ability to operate relevant safety, security and power plant systems, tools and equipment and shift work.
- You will be a self-motivated team player with a high degree of initiative, interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- You will be able to work independently, accurately and on own initiative to maintain work output with minimal supervision, taking initiative in identifying and resolving issues by developing solutions and recommendations in advance of seeking direction.
- You will be a highly organized and detailed-oriented individual who can manage competing priorities.

The Facilities Chief Engineer is responsible for supervising technical staff and ensuring the efficient, effective and uninterrupted operation of the central plant, common utilities and systems on a 24-hour basis at Canada Place. This position also schedules physical asset management activities, oversees energy management as well as being a technical resource for internal and external stakeholders.
What you do:
- Plan, schedule and allocate the workflow for the Facilities Engineering Team and related technical and maintenance work, to ensure the safe, efficient, effective and uninterrupted operation of the central plant, common utilities and systems on a 24-hour basis.
- Provides input to performance reviews of employees and participates in the recruitment of employees as required. Identifies and facilitates appropriate training for employees.
- Monitor job progress, verify technical plans, inspect quality of work performed and assure job site safety.
- Assist the Manager, Facilities Services to prepare operations and physical asset management plans.
- Plans, budgets, schedules, assigns, and directs work to ensure efficient execution of operations, maintenance, and repairs, including tenant services, while adhering to schedules and budgets.
- Assist the Manager, Facilities Services in the development and monitoring of the operating and maintenance budget. Optimize resources in the delivery of services within budget.
- Coordinates and oversees maintenance activities to ensure compliance with regulations, schedules, and budgets. Conduct inspections, supervises maintenance/repair progress, and records activities and progress.
- Ensure the facility is operated and maintained in accordance with best practices for reducing carbon emissions, conserving energy, and adhering to pertinent environmental regulations and standards.
- Generate utility reports, analyze variances and prepare monthly summaries for review and discussion with Manager, including recommended technical changes to optimize effective and efficient operations.
- Prepare capital budgets and oversee projects from initiation to completion, providing technical guidance to project teams and stakeholders.
- Define scope of work and prepare requests for tenders, proposals, quotations. Manage the procurement process and participate in evaluating and selecting consultants and contractors. Prepare submissions for program and contract approvals.
