The Town is seeking applications for the position of Mechanic/Trades I in the Public Works department on a permanent full-time basis. Reporting to the Foreperson of Public Works this position supports the maintenance and repair of the Municipal Fleet.

Duties will include:

• Performing scheduled servicing, preventive maintenance and repairs and maintenance both in the shop and in the field on a large variety of automotive, commercial trucks, large and small equipment items and emergency generators;
• Inspecting vehicles and equipment, diagnosing and troubleshooting mechanical, or electrical malfunctions, and undertakes corrective action.
• Performing welding repair and fabrication tasks as required;
• Operating vehicles and equipment when assigned;
• General labourer duties as assigned.

Required qualifications include:

• Completion of grade 12;
• Valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with Air Endorsement and safe driving record;
• Completion of General Mechanic Ticket;
• Four (4) years recent and related experience in general mechanic work including automotive, heavy-duty repair and maintenance, and equipment repair and maintenance;
• Red Seal Automotive Mechanic considered an asset;
• Air Brake Repair for Mechanics and Commercial Vehicle Inspection Certificate considered an asset;
• Welding and fabrication experience;
• Welding ticket considered an asset;
• Supply their own complete set of tools;
• Ability to use computer applications such as Microsoft Office and ADP;
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, particularly when dealing with the public;
• Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a team as well as independently;
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations with a proven track record of working safely;
• An equivalent combination of education, experience, and knowledge will be considered if deemed acceptable by the Employer.

 
The terms and conditions of employment are covered by the CUPE Local 401 Collective Agreement. The rate of pay will be $37.16 per hour. Successful applicants will be expected to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Interested candidates are invited to submit a resume and cover letter to:
