Position Summary
Under the direction of the Director of Operations or Deputy Director of Operations, the Millwright maintains the continued operation and preventative maintenance of building systems and related equipment in all District of Kitimat facilities.

  1. Responsible for building systems of municipal buildings, plants and facilities: 
    • Determines work requirements by performing diagnostic procedures, analyzing anomalies, receiving verbal/written information, reading work orders, and consulting equipment logs/specifications and system/design drawings, repair/operations manuals, and manufacturer/ government notices.
    • Work includes preventive maintenance, troubleshooting issues, systems overhauls, repairs, installations, and calibration of building systems.
    • Performs inspection and tests for compliance with the relevant regulations, building codes, District requirements and other pertinent codes and statutes.
    • Estimates labour and parts costs of repairs. Monitors project budgets and ensures efficient use of funds.
    • Obtains adequate supply of all materials/equipment required in the course of performing duties by contacting Purchasing, Stores, or vendors/manufacturers directly.
    • Records work activities in relevant logs books after performing work on systems.
    • Directs work crews as needed to assist with work.
    • Utilizes Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to respond to and update maintenance requests.
  2. The incumbent also:
    • Performs general housekeeping at all work areas.
    • Completes repair and maintenance reports and logs, including through CMMS.
    • Maintains and develops preventative maintenance programs for buildings and systems listed under Primary Responsibilities.
    • Assists with Mausoleum internments, both crypt and niche.
    • Assists with snow clearing during winter months.
    • Provides input into the preparation of relevant budgets and assists in monitoring project costs against budget.
    • Coordinates with counterpart (and CMMS) for major project works including but not limited to annual pool shutdown and absences

  • Certification as a Red Seal Millwright
  • Ability to obtain Pool Operators Certificate Levels I & II
  • Ability to obtain Backflow Assembly Tester Certification
  • Ability to obtain Refrigeration Basic Safety Awareness
  • Driver’s license, Class 5/7N (airbrake endorsement is an asset)
  • WHMIS 2015
  • The skills, knowledge and formal qualifications required for this position would typically be obtained through completion of trades specific post-secondary education, with up to four years of training and experience

Wage Rate:
This is a bargaining unit position with a wage rate of $49.17 per hour.
