Qualifications
- You will possess a Journeyman Plumber - Certificate of Trades Qualification (TQ), Gas Fitter “B” Certification and a Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
- Additionally, you will be a BOABC Level II Plumbing Official Qualified or enrolled in the Building Official-in-Training Program (BOIT) and on target to be Level II “Qualified” within a required timeline.
- A working knowledge of cross connection control is preferred.
- Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of inspection, regulatory, and enforcement work related to plumbing, sprinkler, sewer, and gas-fitting; a working knowledge of the B.C. Building Code, as well as NFPA 13, 13R, and 13D standards.
- You will have effective communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word and Excel) and data entry for purposes of using the City’s wireless electronic inspection system is essential.
- Candidates with experience in inspection and enforcement work, ideally in a municipal setting, are preferred.
- You will be required to provide your own transportation in return for reimbursement according to the Vehicle Policy.
Description/Duties

The City of North Vancouver Planning and Development Department is looking for a regular full-time & temporary full-time (approximately 2 years) Plumbing & Gas Inspector to join their team.
In this position, you will inspect and report on plumbing systems, sprinkler systems, gas installations; drain tile and damp-proofing installations; hot water heating systems and gas installations. You will also review plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes, acts, bylaws, regulations, and standards; approve or reject work inspected and enforce changes or corrections as required. In addition, you will provide technical assistance to a variety of external and internal contacts and prepare related records, reports and correspondence.
Salary:
$46.07 - $54.44 per hour + benefits (Pay Grade 26 – January 2024 rates)
Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every 3-week scheduling cycle.
