Senior Building and Plumbing Inspector
Are you a seasoned professional with extensive experience in building and plumbing inspections? Do you have a knack for leadership and a passion for enforcing regulations with integrity? We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Building and Plumbing Inspector to join our team. This pivotal role involves supervising a group of trades inspectors, conducting complex inspections, and ensuring compliance with building and plumbing bylaws.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, assign, supervise, and review the work of a team of trades inspectors and construction site officers. Participate in training new staff members.
- Conduct building or plumbing inspections for special projects, sensitive sites, and staff shortages. Provide expert guidance on complex and controversial issues.
- Act as a key point of contact for discussions with owners, contractors, tradesmen, and architects. Address and resolve problems, investigate complaints, and provide expert advice on bylaws and procedures.
- Recommend changes to policies, procedures, regulations, and bylaws. Prepare comprehensive reports and maintain accurate files and records.
- Engage in committees and projects related to building and plumbing inspections. Recommend and support legal actions for non-compliance and provide evidence in court as needed.
Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of building and plumbing inspection techniques, principles, and practices, as well as bylaws, regulations, codes, and standards.
- Proven ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others, while maintaining effective working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external contacts.
- Ability to develop policies, procedures, and bylaws, prepare detailed reports, and review files to recommend legal actions.
- Strong ability to enforce regulations and codes impartially and with good judgement.
Qualifications:
- Completion of Grade 12 plus post-secondary courses in building construction technology, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Considerable experience as a Building Inspector with some supervisory experience.
- BOABC Building Official Level 3 Certification, BOABC Plumbing Official Level 1 Certification.
- A Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia.
The City of Delta provides a competitive salary of $49.65 - $58.66 (commensurate with experience); and an excellent benefits package including Municipal Pension Plan as well as an earned-days-off system.
