Responsibilities
OVERALL PURPOSE:
The Support Equipment Tradesperson is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the maintenance of way support equipment in accordance with industry standards, approved work practices, and company policy and procedure.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Support Equipment Supervisor, performs inspection, maintenance, and repair of tools, cranes, equipment, and machinery in accordance with industry standards and company policy and procedure. These activities may be performed in the shop or in the field.
Diagnose and repair of diesel and petrol motors, fuel systems, transmissions and drive line components, industrial control systems, AC/ DC electrical circuits and components, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, brake components (air and hydraulic), and mobile equipment HVAC systems.
Overhauls equipment, subsystems, and individual components as instructed. Coordinates with contractors and vendors to make modifications and repairs as required.
Fabricates special tools, jigs, components, and equipment as required.
Works with suppliers and internal purchasing department to source parts, specify alternatives, and recommend modifications where necessary.
Prepares inspection and maintenance records, reports, and test documents in accordance with established practices and procedures. Ensures work orders, and other paper work, are completed to company standards in a timely manner. Signs work off as completed to standard.
Participates in the development of maintenance and repair programs. Shows willingness to continuously work towards improved methods and modernized processes. Works cooperatively with colleagues to identify problems and develop quality and timely solutions.
Tests repaired, modified, or replaced equipment for proper performance. Provides accurate test reports and documentation in accordance with industry standards, approved work practices, and company policy and procedure.
Attends technical and safety training programs to continually upgrade skills.
Comply with workplace safety policies and regulations. Participates in monthly safety meetings by providing feedback on safety topics and concerns when needed.
Communicate unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries to supervisor in a timely manner. Follows company policies on reporting unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries.
Operates and is familiar with all support equipment (road, rail and special equipment).
Operates a motor vehicle with valid BC driver’s license.
Performs related duties as assigned such being of a minor nature which do not affect the value of the job.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
High school graduation or equivalent. BCTQ and/or Interprovincial Certification as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic, Commercial Transport Mechanic, or Industrial Mechanic with a combination of education and experience. Red Seal Automotive Technicians with the following minimum qualifications may also be considered: diesel engine, air brake, and fluid power system (air and hydraulic) repair and maintenance. Must have served an apprenticeship in one of the indicated trades or equivalent.
CVIP, welding, and industrial electronics certification an asset.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum of five (5) years recent experience in equipment and machinery maintenance at the Red Seal/ Journeyperson level.
Experience in the maintenance, troubleshooting, repair and overhaul of equipment and machinery.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a maintenance team.

Recruitment Process: An applicant will be required to demonstrate their suitability for this position by meeting the minimum level of qualifications and experience in order to be invited into the selection process. A standard interview format will be used including general, scenario and behavioural descriptive interview questions.
Work Schedule
40 hours per week.
Rate of Pay
Wage: $55.19 per hour
Please note: All new employees will be subject to a 6-week trainee rate at 75% of the hourly rate.
