This is a skilled carpentry and cabinet making work at the journeyman level involving the use of a variety of tools in the performance of advanced carpentry and specialized related tasks. The incumbent directs and assists in the construction and repair of a variety of buildings and building additions. The successful candidate performs maintenance tasks; cabinet making and installation; designs, builds and/or repairs a variety of structures made from wood or other materials used in public facilities such as park’s bridges and benches; window and doors, commercial hardware, drywall, steel stud framing, flooring, and roofing. The Trades 2 – Carpenter makes estimates of time and materials needed for assigned carpentry tasks; supervises other carpenters who assist in the most advanced tasks. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, materials, tools and equipment used in carpentry. Considerable knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Knowledge of the requirements of the various departments regarding equipment design. Ability to plan and construct a variety of specialized wooden structures; perform skilled cabinet making tasks; read and work from blueprints and sketches; assign and supervise the work of assistants. Skill in the use and care of all tools essential to woodworking. A Driver’s Licence for the Province of British Columbia and Certificate of Qualification – Carpenter are required.
