Main Purpose and Function
The supervisory position is responsible for a variety of operational and administrative functions for the Traffic and Electrical Operations Branch. The position is responsible for planning the assignment of work, ensuring the safe, efficient and expeditious execution of the work and day-to-day supervision of field crews.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities
  • Plans, organizes, coordinates and monitors the work of field crews.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes work group assignments, repairs and scheduled tasks with city departments, contractors and other Trade Supervisors to ensure safety, efficiency and minimal downtime. Manages resources for city’s cable, date, lighting and traffic systems.
  • Monitors work orders in the Hansen asset & work management system
  • Conducts quality checks to ensure timely and budget compliant completion of tasks.
  • Manages various administrative records.
  • Consults with other branches for improved work methods and measurements.
  • Provides training and instruction to new hires and apprentices
  • Performs hands-on repair work
  • Assists in benchmark development and performance evaluation
  • Exercises independent judgment in resolving interpersonal and disciplinary issues
  • Other duties/responsibilities as required, including electrical work related to operations.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education and Experience:
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Must have an inter-provincial certificate in Electrical Trades or Technologist Diploma in Electronics, and extensive experience in the Electrical Trade including considerable experience with traffic signal and street lighting installation, maintenance, diagnosis and repair, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Supplemental course related to the responsibilities of the position would be an asset
  • Drivers license for the Province of British Columbia (Class 5) is required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electrical applications and procedures.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and conflict resolution
  • Familiar with the Hansen asset and work management system and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Adept at inventory management and requisition procedures
  • Effective team leader promoting coordination and initiative
  • Ability to use the Hansen asset & work management system to open, monitor and close work orders
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • Strong leadership skills including coaching and mentoring
  • Exercises sound judgment independently
  • Excellent planning, organization and administrative skills
  • Strong communication skills and customer service oriented.
  • Adaptable and flexible in a changing environment
  • Demonstrates awareness and ownership over the responsibility for safety and security
  • Skilled in using and maintaining field-related tools
  • Proficient in operating trucks and aerial equipment.
  • Proficiency in handling tools and understanding electrical systems
