Qualifications

Education and Experience:

• Successful completion of a related apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.
• An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.
• An Instructor's Diploma or valid BC Teacher's Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
• Six to ten years recent relevant experience.

The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. The duties and responsibilities of a Vocational Instructor include continuing excellence in one's field, instructional and professional duties, professional development and service.

Functions and Duties:

Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:

• Instructional (teaching assignments)
• Course and program preparation and revision
• Student contact
• Student advising
• Evaluation and marking of student work
• Other functions related to instruction

Professional duties may include any or all of the following:

• Curriculum development
• Student registration
• Pre-registration duties

Service may include any or all of the following:

• School visitations
• Participation on OC committees
• Attendance at articulation meetings
• Representing OC at other functions
• Administrative and other duties

Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Schedule:

• Given on-call nature of position, schedule, campus location, and frequency of instruction may vary.
• Typical instructional day is 7.5 hours long. Typical instructional week is four days and would not exceed 30 hours.

Annual Salary/Hourly Rate:
Salary range $71,846 to $115,129 annually; normal starting salary between $78,872 and $85,897 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
